Three Different Paths. One Shared Dream.

Tan

His passion for The Oliang is to create a small, safe space where the neighborhood can enjoy fresh, high-quality Thai comfort food. That’s why the menu is intentionally limited, he wants to ensure the quality of every ingredient in every dish. His philosophy in life and business is simple: ‘Focus’ and ‘Consistency.’ He began his career in New York 13 years ago as a dishwasher, and over time, he worked in every role in a restaurant without even realizing it, eventually becoming the owner. Life is amazing, isn’t it?

Kwan

Originally working as a Flight Attendant in Thailand, she spent many years traveling the world and mastering the art of hospitality. Her passion for connecting with people and creating memorable experiences eventually inspired her to open her own restaurant in Chicago, where she brings warmth, creativity, and a taste of Thailand to every guest

Joy

The owner of Joy of Thai, has been running her own business for over 10 years and continues to thrive. She is the key person who made The Oliang possible. Two years ago, she first met Tan and Kwan as her employees and immediately recognized something special in them. Taking a big risk, she gave them an opportunity that few would have offered the chance to run their own restaurant after knowing them for just six months. As Tan once said, ‘Good heart and the strongest woman — that’s the perfect definition of Joy.’

Angry

I hope they do well so I can be spoiled even more!
